The Czech Republic has officially requested the purchase of twenty-four F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Conventional Take Off and Landing (CTOL) aircraft, along with twenty-five Pratt & Whitney F135-PW-100 engines (24 installed, 1 spare). Additionally, the request includes a range of munitions such as seventy AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), three AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance sections, eighty-six GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bombs - Increment II (SDB-II) Stormbreaker All-Up-Rounds (AUR), and more, totaling $5.62 billion.
Currently, the F-35 is in production and is primarily used by the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Navy, while also being employed by other countries. Since production began in 2006, over 935 aircraft have been built to date, as of June 2023.
The F-35 is a modern and advanced aircraft that offers operational versatility. It is designed for various roles, including air superiority, close air support, reconnaissance, and ground strike. Its integrated combat system and stealth capabilities make it a vital asset for contemporary military operations. Equipped with powerful engines and advanced avionics, it delivers exceptional performance in terms of speed, maneuverability, and range.
The F-35 is also renowned for its sensor and communication systems, enabling increased interconnectivity with other airborne platforms and command and control systems. This capability enhances situational awareness and mission coordination, thereby strengthening overall military operational effectiveness.
This sale aims to enhance the defense capabilities of the Czech Republic while supporting NATO operations and bolstering regional security against modern threats.
The primary contractors for this significant defense transaction will be Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Raytheon Missiles and Defense, and The Boeing Company. The possibility of industrial participation will be determined in negotiations between the Czech Republic and the contractor.
The implementation of this proposed sale will not require the deployment of additional U.S. government or contractor representatives to the Czech Republic. It is emphasized that there will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness resulting from this transaction.
With this $5.62 billion purchase request for 24 F-35 aircraft, the Czech Republic aims to enhance and modernize its air force, marking a significant development for its aviation and defense capabilities.
