The F-35 Lightning II, recognized as the most modern and powerful fighter aircraft in the world, relies heavily on its core component: the fuselage center section. This section integrates several critical systems, including weapons systems, avionics, as well as hydraulic and electrical systems, playing a crucial role in the aircraft's functionality.

Rheinmetall has constructed a production facility in Weeze, located in the Lower Rhine region. Set to manufacture at least 400 fuselage center sections starting mid-2025, this facility is being developed in partnership with the American company Northrop Grumman. Deliveries are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2027.

For North Rhine-Westphalia, the establishment of the F-35A production plant in Weeze marks a little milestone, opening doors to the military aerospace industry. The facility is poised to be one of the most advanced in Europe, reflecting Rheinmetall's substantial investment of several hundred million euros. Spanning approximately 30,000 square meters, the factory will create over 400 direct jobs, encompassing roles in production, engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain management.

This collaboration was initiated through a letter of intent signed in early 2023. Rheinmetall is investing over €100 million to build a production facility, which will feature advanced manufacturing technologies and automated systems developed by Northrop Grumman.

Moreover, this collaboration is not just about manufacturing components; it represents a transfer of know-how and technological expertise to Germany. This initiative aligns with Germany's strategic defense goals and strengthens its position in the global aerospace industry.
