Diehl Defence, a leading defense contractor in Germany, plans to integrate the Slinger system onto a lightweight 4x4 platform. This integration aims to enhance the protection of critical assets against the increasing threat posed by drone attacks. The Slinger system is distinguished by its proprietary tracking technology and the ability to engage drones at distances exceeding 800 meters, depending on the weapon configuration. Specifically designed for urban environments, it includes a radar, various weapon configurations, and EOS's proprietary stabilization and pointing technology.
Dr. EOS's CEO Andreas Schwer emphasized the significance of this contract, stating, "This collaboration with Diehl Defence represents a pivotal moment in the journey of the Slinger anti-drone system. Since its launch in early 2023, Slinger has embodied EOS's spirit of innovation, benefiting from real-world combat insights to adapt to the evolving defense landscape continuously."
Scheduled for delivery in 2024, the contract includes systems, spare parts, training, and associated services, all pending export approval by the Australian government. EOS's fulfillment of this contract will leverage a comprehensive support network and supply chain, including more than one hundred suppliers both in Australia and internationally.
The development of the Slinger system signifies EOS's strategic focus on export markets, aiming to address sophisticated and emerging threats observed in recent conflicts. The system's proprietary stabilization and pointing technology ensures vital precision for anti-drone operations.
The Slinger integrates a suite of advanced technologies, including radar, a 30mm cannon equipped with specialized ammunition, and EOS's proprietary stabilization and pointing technology. Capable of tracking and engaging moving drones beyond 800 meters, the Slinger is particularly suited to urban environments thanks to its unique ammunition. Designed based on lessons learned from conflict regions like Ukraine, it meets contemporary and emerging threats.
The system stands out for its high-precision weapon platform, weighing less than 400 kg, and its ability to remain fully stabilized even on the move. It has an Echodyne ultra-low size, weight, and power (SWaP) 4D targeting radar with active beam steering ESA. The 4-axis sighting system, featuring a sensor unit that moves independently of the gun in both elevation and azimuth, ensures extreme accuracy. This exquisite pointing technology enables remarkable precision in shooting. The Slinger is armed with a Bushmaster M230LF 30 x 113mm cannon and uses lightweight 30mm Proximity Sensing Ammunition equipped with a radio frequency proximity-fuzed, high explosive, fragmentation round. Additionally, a wind sensor enhances shooting accuracy by compensating for atmospheric variations.
As countries worldwide grapple with the challenges posed by unmanned aerial systems, the EOS-Diehl Defence partnership signifies a forward-looking approach to defense strategy, merging Australian innovation with German engineering to set new standards in security and protection.
