On April 26, 2025, the Argentine Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the arrival and incorporation of a new batch of Polaris MRZR 4x4 ultralight tactical vehicles into the Argentine Army. The delivery was made to the Arsenal Directorate facilities located in Boulogne, in the province of Buenos Aires, marking a further step in the modernization of the Army’s light tactical fleet. The Polaris MRZR is an ultralight 4x4 tactical vehicle designed for rapid deployment, high mobility, and multi-mission versatility in complex operational environments. Produced by Polaris Defense, a U.S.-based defense contractor, the MRZR is renowned for its use by elite units in NATO and allied armed forces. The vehicle’s modular configuration allows for the mounting of various weapon systems such as 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine guns, grenade launchers, or remote weapon stations, depending on mission requirements and user specifications. Its lightweight construction, combined with a high-performance engine, enables speeds exceeding 90 km/h, with off-road capabilities that make it particularly suitable for reconnaissance, quick reaction, or special operations tasks.

While specific budgetary details for this latest acquisition have not been disclosed by Argentine authorities, the initiative is part of a broader tactical mobility renewal program. The Argentine Army had already incorporated MRZR units in previous years, particularly for use by the Special Operations Forces and the 4th Airborne Brigade. The success of earlier deployments in diverse environments—ranging from jungle regions to mountainous terrain—led the Army to request an additional batch. According to footage shared on social media by the military, the current delivery likely includes between 15 and 20 new units.

This recent procurement reflects the growing relationship between Polaris Defense and South American militaries. During the 2024 AUSA defense exposition in the United States, Polaris representatives confirmed that the final step in the delivery process was awaiting routine bureaucratic authorization by U.S. government agencies. With that process now complete, Argentina has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping its light and airborne forces with agile, mission-adaptable platforms.

Internationally, the Polaris MRZR has been adopted by various armed forces including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. In the U.S., it has seen extensive use by the Marines and Special Operations Command. These forces value the MRZR for its compact size, air-transportability (including internal transport in CH-47 Chinook or V-22 Osprey aircraft), and its ability to operate in austere and remote environments. In South America, other countries such as Colombia and Brazil have shown interest in the platform, either for testing or limited deployment.

The strategic and military advantages of the MRZR lie in its flexibility and speed of deployment, allowing units to rapidly reposition in dynamic combat situations. For airborne or expeditionary forces, the MRZR provides a unique combination of mobility, adaptability, and logistical efficiency. In addition, its ability to be reconfigured for casualty evacuation, command and control, or supply transport roles makes it a highly valuable asset for light infantry operations.

The delivery of a new batch of Polaris MRZR 4x4 vehicles to the Argentine Army illustrates Buenos Aires’ continuing efforts to modernize its tactical capabilities, especially in the field of high-mobility ground forces. By reinforcing units such as the Special Operations Forces and airborne brigades with this platform, the Argentine military enhances its ability to conduct rapid, flexible, and terrain-adaptable operations across the national territory. As regional security dynamics evolve, platforms like the MRZR are likely to play a key role in ensuring operational readiness and effective response across a spectrum of missions.
