FEINDEF 2025: Spain's EINSA Debuts New Version of 4x4 Falcata Tactical Vehicle Armed With Loitering Munitions.

At FEINDEF 2025, the Spanish defense company EINSA made headlines with the unveiling of a new variant of its renowned Falcata 4x4 light tactical vehicle. Developed for rapid deployment and airborne operations, this latest evolution of the Falcata reaffirms its role as one of the most versatile and capable tactical platforms in service with Spanish military forces. Deployed by elite units such as the 6th Paratrooper Brigade "Almogávares" (BRIPAC) and the Airmobile Forces (FAMET), the Falcata has been engineered to deliver speed, mobility, and adaptability under the most demanding conditions.

The new Falcata variant maintains all the core advantages of its predecessors while incorporating a series of enhancements tailored for modern battlefield requirements. Technically, it is powered by a 2GD diesel engine that offers 110 kW of output, with optional configurations of 136 kW or 150 kW at 3,400 rpm. It generates torque of 400 Nm, optionally upgradable to 500 Nm at 1,600 rpm, enabling strong performance across rough terrains. A 6-speed automatic transmission paired with selectable driving modes including 4x2H, 4x4H, and 4x4L ensures traction and flexibility in a variety of operational contexts.

The vehicle's performance is further highlighted by its electronically limited top speed of 120 km/h and a load capacity exceeding 1,000 kg. It accommodates four personnel in a 2+2 layout, weighs approximately 2,150 kg, and is fully compatible with a range of military air transport platforms. The Falcata can be carried inside aircraft such as the Airbus A400M, C-130 Hercules, and C-295, or sling-loaded beneath CH-47 Chinooks. It is also parachutable, providing a complete suite of deployment options for airborne forces.

What truly sets this new Falcata variant apart is its integrated weapon system, a launcher equipped with three tubes for firing Q-SLAM-40 loitering munitions. This advanced system, developed by the Spanish firm Arquimea, represents a major milestone in autonomous strike capabilities for Spain’s defense industry. The Q-SLAM-40 is a compact, high-precision loitering munition designed to provide tactical units with rapid strike capabilities against soft or lightly armored targets. Comparable to the American Switchblade 300, it delivers similar performance in a lighter, fully Spanish-developed package.

The Q-SLAM-40 operates autonomously and is deployed by a crew of two operators. It is designed for swift launch and real-time targeting, offering a cost-effective solution for time-sensitive missions. With its integration into the Falcata platform, the Spanish Army gains a powerful mobile strike tool that combines high maneuverability with pinpoint lethality. Currently under evaluation by multiple army units, the Q-SLAM-40 is expected to enter service soon, enhancing the operational flexibility and technological edge of Spain’s rapid reaction forces.

This combination of air mobility, multi-role versatility, and autonomous firepower positions the new Falcata variant as a flagship in Spain’s tactical vehicle lineup. It exemplifies the synergy between national defense innovation and operational readiness, setting a new benchmark for future developments in European land warfare systems. Army Recognition will continue to provide coverage as the Q-SLAM-40-equipped Falcata progresses through trials and into frontline deployment.
