U.S. Oshkosh to Supply 150 JLTV-Based DXPV 4x4 Armored Vehicles to Netherlands Marine Corps.

On April 24, 2025, Oshkosh Defense Europe B.V., in partnership with Oshkosh Defense, LLC—a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation [NYSE: OSK]—announced a significant contract awarded by the Netherlands Ministry of Defence. The agreement involves the production of 150 Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicles (DXPV), a specialized variant of the U.S. Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), designed to meet the specific requirements of the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps under the Future Littoral All-Terrain Mobility – Patrol Vehicle (FLATM-PV) program.

This procurement underscores the Netherlands' commitment to enhancing its expeditionary and amphibious capabilities, particularly in challenging littoral environments. The DXPV is designed to offer advanced off-road mobility, speed, and transportability, ensuring seamless operational and logistical interoperability with NATO allies. Pat Williams, Chief Programs Officer at Oshkosh Defense, emphasized the strategic value of the DXPV, stating that its high degree of commonality with the approximately 22,000 JLTVs delivered to the U.S. Department of Defense and over 1,600 units fielded across NATO and allied nations significantly reduces the logistics footprint and enhances system performance and operational readiness.

The JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle)  program originated in 2006 as a response to the vulnerabilities of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) in asymmetric warfare environments, particularly against improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command initiated the JLTV program to develop a family of vehicles offering greater survivability and payload capacity. After a competitive selection process, Oshkosh's Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV) was chosen in August 2015 for its superior performance and protection capabilities. The JLTV family includes various configurations, such as the M1278 Heavy Guns Carrier, M1279 Utility, M1280 General Purpose, and M1281 Close Combat Weapons Carrier, each designed to fulfill specific tactical roles.

The Netherlands' acquisition of the DXPV marks its entry into a growing community of JLTV operators, including countries like Belgium, Lithuania, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Mongolia, Latvia, Slovakia, Brazil, Romania, and Israel. This move reflects a broader trend among NATO members to modernize their tactical vehicle fleets with platforms that offer enhanced protection, mobility, and interoperability.

The DXPV's integration into the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps is expected to significantly bolster the nation's rapid deployment and amphibious operation capabilities. Its design, optimized for littoral zones, ensures that Dutch forces can effectively navigate and operate in complex coastal terrains. Furthermore, the vehicle's compatibility with existing NATO systems facilitates joint operations and logistics, reinforcing collective defense initiatives.

As the defense landscape continues to evolve, the adoption of versatile and resilient platforms like the DXPV positions the Netherlands to address emerging security challenges effectively. Oshkosh Defense's proven track record and the DXPV's advanced capabilities underscore the strategic foresight of the Netherlands Ministry of Defence in enhancing its military readiness and interoperability within the NATO framework.
