AAD Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition Edition |
|
Staged biennially, the AAD exhibition remains Africa's premier event to showcase leading edge commercial and general aviation related technologies and products together with defense-related landward, maritime and aerospace platforms and systems. Fully supported by the South African government and set to take place in Cape Town from 17-21 September 2008, this exhibition is a highlight on the African continent and its international flavor attracts exhibitors from all over the world. Under the auspices of the South African Aerospace Maritime & Defense Industries association (AMD), and in partnership with Armscor, the Commercial Aviation Association of South Africa (CAASA) and the DOD, all being co-owners of AAD, the arrangements for staging another highly successful ADD expo is progressing well. In order to keep abreast of the many challenges to stage a prestigious event of this nature, the co-owners of AAD have decide to establish a core unit of specialist with the specific objective to arrange AAD 2008 and not to appoint a external show organizer as was the norm previously. To this end the executive director of AMD, Simphiwe Hamilton, was appointed as AAD Show Director and Geoff van Hees was appointed as the AAD Show Organizer. The team is further bolstered by dedicated accounting and administration staff. To date, major local and international industry player have indicated their interest to participate in AAD 2008 and a number of them have already confirmed their space requirements.
Visitor profile: - The international status of this unique South African based event as reflected by the AAD 2006 attendance figures speaks for itself as AAD hosted 52 high level delegations from 37 countries. - 7548 sq m External exhibition space. - 9000 sq m Internal exhibition space. - 27 Exhibiting countries - National pavilions from Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Malaysia, UK, India, Canada, Brazil, China, Sweden, Russia, Netherlands, Ukraine, Spain, USA, Switzerland an d South Africa. - 28 Hospitality chalets - 45 Static display of commercial aircraft - 400 Exhibitors - 13 Ministers of Defence - 11 Secretaries of Defence A large number of senior visiting groups representing various arms of service were hosted by their South African counterparts. Many African countries were also represented by their senior decision makers who have ala indicated that they wish to attend AAD 2008. A highlight is the quality of trade visitors all of whom realize that AAD open doors and create opportunities for meeting potential business partners as it is the ideal entry into the African marketplace.

Trade Days: 17-19 September 2008 The first three days are reserved for trade and will provide unequalled opportunity for exhibitors to interact and establish mutually beneficial relationships with decision makers, visiting delegations and captains of industry.
Public Days: 20-21 September 2008 The last two days of AAD 2008 is set aside as public days during with a comprehensive world class flying display of local and international general aviation aerobatic teams and military aircraft will take place.
Conferences: In tune with leading international exhibitions of this nature, the organizers are now in the planning process of staging a number of conferences which will address pertinent issues relevant to the interest of a large number of trade visitors, delegations and exhibitors alike. These conferences will take place immediately prior to an d during AAD 2008. A counter trade and offset conference hosted by DMA is planned for 15-16 September at the BIE Conference Centre at the Cape Town Waterfront. A conference addressing issues related to general and commercial aviation is currently being structured and will also attract industrialist, and representatives of the local and international aerospace community.

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Aerospace Industry Support Initiative (AISI) will once again host a Pavilion at Africa Aerospace and Defence 2008. As part of this pavilion the dti and AISI are offering an opportunity for small aerospace related companies to participate in AAD2008. As such, they are offering the successful applicants a free 3x3m (9m2) stand on their pavilion. On 16 October 2007 the AAD 2008 organising team made a presentation to the foreign Military Attache and Advisors Corps (MAAC) based in South Africa. The MAAC meet on a monthly basis to discuss issues of mutual interest and the October meeting provided the ideal opportunity to the AAD 2008 organizers to inform them on the current status regarding the planning for AAD 2008. AAD 2008 promoted at leading international defence exhibition. At the launch of the South African Defence Industries Directory (SADID) at the Defence Services and Equipment (DSEi) exhibition in London on 11 September, the AAD show director utilized the opportunity to further promote AAD 2008 which will take place from 17-21 September 2008 at the Air Force Base Ysterplaat, in Cape Town.
