Russia is seeking to equip its airborne troops with a variety of new weaponry in the coming years, including BMD-4M airborne infantry fighting vehicles (AIFVs) and new sniper rifles, the head of the service said on 8 December. "We are expecting to receive up to 200 BMD-4M AIFVs in the next few years to significantly increase the combat capability of our troops," said Lieutenant General Vladimir Shamanov, according to comments conveyed by state news service RIA Novosti.
