The French government has appointed Adm. Edouard Guillaud as chief of the Defense Staff, minutes of the weekly Cabinet meeting showed on 27 January 2010. Adm. Edouard Guillaud is currently chief military adviser to French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The appointment of Guillaud is effective Feb. 25, according to the minutes from the office of the president. He succeeds Army Gen. Jean-Louis Georgelin, who took up the post in 2006 and reached retirement age last year. Georgelin's mission was extended by six months.The French government has appointed Adm.
