Based on the knowledge that our operational forces could no longer do without a high performance and modern ground-to-air protection system against tactical missiles, the French Military Programme Law 2003-2009 responded to this need by developing the SAMP/T Surface-to-Air Medium Range missile system which has just come into service for forces serving in the Luxeuil air defence artillery squadron.

The SAMP/T system combines the Arabel radar, a real-time engagement module and the Aster 30 missile. As part of its responsibility for the fire control function, Thales is also participating in designing and producing homing devices for Aster missiles. With the supply of 15 SAMP/T systems under the FSAF (Future Surface-to-Air Family) programme, Thales is demonstrating its capacity to play a leading role in the field of ground-based anti-aircraft and anti-missile defence.
