Defense Minister Carme Chacon today presented to the Council of Ministers a report on the need for a new 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle to enhance safety and mobility of Spanish troops. According to the Defense Ministry's policy to give top priority to the safety and protection of Spanish soldiers, the Defense Minister has requested an additional effort to acquire a new fleet of 4x4 armored squad and platoon vehicles, and of next generation 8x8 vehicles, to complete the renewal of the Spanish Army’s armored vehicles inventory. The Defense Ministry is considering, in an effort to expedite arrangements for the future purchase, the main models of 8x8 wheeled armored vehicles available on the market, some of which are already in operation with allied forces.
