President Barak Obama recently signalled the beginning of the end of the Afghanistan operation. Obama's speech seemed to provide authorisation to the entire political and military landscape to give the green light to the essential work of establishing a stabilised Afghanistan, as allies were informed of the direction in which the alliance is taking.
Obama's order to surge 30,000 troops into Afghanistan presents significant logistical challenges, as the allied forces face some of the most forbidding terrain in the world.
