The current
lease of Saab Gripens by the Czech Air Force will end
in 2015 and the Czech White Paper of Defence raised a
potential need for a new NATO compatible supersonic aircraft.
The
European solution offered by the Eurofighter Typhoon could
help to sustain and develop the capabilities of the Czech
defence industry and develop its skilled workforce. Through
international collaboration and a designated technology
insertion programme, involvment in the Typhoon programme
would ensure the nation's air force flies a very advanced
new generation aircraft for the coming decades.
