Three
French soldiers serving with the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)
were wounded by road side bomb near the city of Saida. The front of the
troop carrier bore the brunt of the blast and was badly damaged, with
several parts blown 20 to 30 metres away. |

During a patrol between the city of Beirut and Dayr Kifa, a convoy of three French armoured vehicles (2 light armoured personnel carrier VAB and 1 small protected vehicle PVP) and a light wheeled vehicle was blow up by a road side bomb as it entered in the city of Saida. Three wounded soldiers were evacuated towards the civil hospital of Saida. Three others were struck by the blast effect. They were taken in charge by French military medical team officer dispatched on the incident area, directly after the explosion, with a patrol charged to make a safe zone. Engaged since 1978, the French Force in Lebanon deploys approximately 1300 soldiers within the UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon). |
