NTC Libyan forces continue heavy fighting in Colonel Gaddafi’s home town of Sirte Libya 0810112.

Libyan interim troops pushed deep into Muammar Gaddafi's birthplace on Friday, taking most of it street by street.

The Libyan National Transitional government forces (NTC) moved in with tanks on Friday morning and bombarded the city of Sirte with heavy artillery, from their position just over one kilometre to the east.

On Saturday morning, NTC tanks were in action again and artillery shells were being fired into the centre, where two or three pockets of strong resistance remain.

Sirte is the last major city to remain in loyalist hands following the collapse of Gadhafi's 42-year rule in August.
