Panhard General Defense is showcasing three new products at MILIPOL 2011 | |||
Panhard
General Defense will be taking part in the Milipol 2011 security exhibitiion
at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, from 18th to 21st October 2011, with
three of its new products. Panhard is the leading European manufacturer
of armoured vehicles of less than 12 tonnes, and intends to enhance its
efforts to break into the domestic security market, which is currently
enjoying significant expansion. Panhard General Defense is ideally positioned
to meet the protected vehicle needs of police forces operating in urban
areas and will be presenting the PVP
APC, the VBL MK2 and the WASP turret. |

Last
September, the French defence procurement agency (DGA) ordered an additional
tranche of 200 PVP
APC (Light Protected Vehicle Armoured Personnel Carrier), 1000 of which
are already in service with the French armed forces. |

The
VBL Mk2 (light armoured vehicle), also present on the company's stand,
is a version of the VBL, more than 2300 of which have been sold and are
in service in 16 countries. This version has a 132 HP engine, day/night
observation scope and a remoteoperated WASP turret capable of accommodating
a machine gun. The Kuwait national guard was already a user of the original
version of the VBL and the Kuwait Police Special Forces have acquired
the VBL MK2 (12.7mm version) in order to handle extreme situations such
as hostage-taking. |

Finally,
Panhard General Defense presents the WASP (Weapon under Armor for Self
Protection), a lightweight turret of less than 60 kg operated from the
interior of a vehicle. This remote-operated turret is equipped with a
7.62 or 5.56 calibre machine gun, coupled with a daylight and night-time
infrared observation scope and sight derived from the infantry FELIN programme.
The weapon's extended elevation (- 40°/+80°) makes it particularly well-suited to urban security, owing to its optronics, that are ideal for the short-range nature of urban action and its weight, which enables it to be mounted on soft skin vehicles, pylons or buildings, making it the obvious choice for law enforcement and security missions. 180 turrets have already been ordered by the French army for their PVPs and VBLs. |
