"As long as there is no embargo on arms shipments to Syria, Russia is fulfilling all its commitments under contracts that were concluded earlier," said Vyacheslav to RIA Novosti journalist during a press conference at Dubai Air Show 2011. Syria is the largest importer of Russian arms in the region. Currently, Russia is on the way to fulfilling its contract for delivery of a coastal defense battery Bastion armed with supersonic anti-ship cruise missile Yakhont. For the beginning of 2011, the total value of contracts concluded between Syria and Russia, is nearly $ 3.5 billion. One of the most important contracts is the delivery of 36 air defense systems, ground-to-air missiles Pantsir-S1, the modernization of all the Syrian T-72 main battle tanks and fighter aircraft MiG-29. The largest contracts being met relate to the delivery of 24 fighters aircraft Mi-29Mk2 and eight batteries of air defense missile systems Buk-M2E. |
