India has successfully testf firing of its home-made surface-to-air missile Akash 2605122.

This comes two days after the country successfully testfired a similar Akash missile from the same place.

"The latest testfiring took place at 11.15 a.m. from the integrated firing range at Chandipur. The testfiring has been successful and the missile intercepted an unmanned aircraft over the Bay of Bengal," the sources said.

Akash is developed by India's Defense Research and Development Organization as part of the country's air defense system.

The indigenously-developed missile, which has a range of 27 km and an effective ceiling of 15 km, was test-fired from the Integrated Test Range of Chandipur in the costal district of Balasore, around 230 km from here. The 700-kg missile can carry a 60-kg warhead.

"It was a developmental trial," M.V.K.V. Prasad, director of the test range, told IANS.

The Aakash missile was successfully tested from the same base Thursday, May 24, 2012.
