Brazilian
Company Mectron wants to conquer the market of anti-tank missile on Africa
with its MSS1.2 portable medium-range antitank weapon system. Mectron
MSS-1.2 is an antitank missile system with laser guidance used for close
and medium range fighting. It is the standard personal missile launch
system of the Brazilian army and marine corps. |

The
MSS 1.2 has a range of 200 to 3,200 m and can be used against tanks, armoured
vehicles, infantry, bunkers, small buildings, boats, aircraft, and helicopters. The missile was developed in the beginning by the Italian company Otobreda under the name of MAF in co-operation with Orbita of Brazil, in order to meet a requirement of the Brazilian Army. Thereafter, development and production has since been taken over by the Brazilian company Mectron. Mectron has been awarded a contract from the Brazilian army for the development of the MSS-1.2 laser-guided anti-tank missile which is based on the earlier MAF system. The
MSS 1.2 antitank missile system can be used by a single operator. The
operator designates and tracks a target through the optical sight of the
Firing Post, thus establishing a line-of-sight. Half a second after the
missile is launched, the Firing Post emits a pulsed laser beam with its
center aligned with the line-of-sight. As the missile flies into the laser
beam, a receptor placed at its tail detects and decodes the pulsed laser,
generating position error information that is processed by the control
section to create servo commands, used to electrically actuate the canards
to keep the missile in the center line of the laser beam until the target
is hit and the contact fuze initiates the shaped charge warhead. |
