The new wire cage armour PG GUARD of French defence equipment manufacturer Nexter.
At the defence exhibition IAV 2012, the French company Nexter presents its new armour system to protect vehicles against anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade, the "PG Guard", mounted on the armored infantry fighting VBCI. The experience from soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan showed that armored vehicles are vulnerable to this type of threat.

To counter to this new threat, several companies have developed and manufactured various systems called wire cage or slat armor.

Slat armor (also known as bar armor or cage armor) is a type of vehicle armor designed to protect against anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attacks. It functions by placing a rigid slatted grid around the vehicle, which disrupts the shaped charge of the warhead by either crushing it, preventing optimal detonation from occurring, or by damaging the fuzing mechanism, preventing detonation.

In Iraq, Slat armor proved quite successful in defeating attacks of High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) of Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPGs).

Slat armor was deployed with United States Army Stryker AFVs operating in Iraq. The British Army deployed similar protection to increase the armor of the Warrior armoured infantry fighting vehicle. Similar modifications were performed on Australian LAV Light Armored Vehicles.

Currently the VBCI uses in Afghanistan by the French army are equipped with flexible slat armor RPG-net developed and manufactured by the company Qinetiq
