The Chinese main battle tank Type-90 II MBT 2000 was tested by the Peruvian armed forces in 2011

In early 2011, Peruvian President Alan Garcia chose the Type-90 II MBT-2000 which featured China. One of the arguments wielded by the Garcia administration was that the MBT-2000 is cheaper, compared with the T-90S, the Leopard 2A6 an the Ukrainian Oplot T-84.

The Peruvian Army Technical Group performed a comparative study of the tanks, and concluded that "The T-90S is established as one of the best ways to equip the Peruvian Army units because it has the capacity to act in all areas of Peru."
