The MAN HX77 8x8 trucks manufactured in Germany were used for the first time by the Russian army during the military exercises Caucasus-2012.

After the purchase of LMV Light Multirole armored Vehicle from the Italian Company IVECO Defence Vehicles, Russia uses German technology with trucks from the Company Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH, a joint venture company between the both German companies MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG and Rheinmetall AG to merge their Military Division (MAN Nutzfahrzeuge) and Corporate Sector Defence (Rheinmetall).

The MAN HX77 is an 8x8 heavy tactical truck. It is a part of Rheinmetall MAN Military HX range of tactical trucks. The HX77 has a payload capacity of 15 t. It is used to transport general cargo. This tactical truck is also available with container handling unit for standard 20 ft ISO containers and Palletizes Loading System (PLS). The MAN HX77 is especially designed for off-road operation.

During the Russian military exercises Caucasus-2012, these trucks were used by motorized rifle brigade with container mounted at the rear of the chassis as command and control station with tactical simulators and network systems.

This purchase was made to integrate tactical mobile simulators with the army training centre in Mulino, Russia which was built by the Düsseldorf-based Rheinmetall Group and its Russian partner JSCo Oboronservis.

Located in the Volga region, by 2014 this simulation-supported training centre – the most advanced system of its kind worldwide – will be able to train 30,000 troops a year. For Rheinmetall the order is worth well over €100 million including further options.
