Syrian government forces attack the rebels in the city of Homs with artillery and rockets.
A Syrian military assault on Homs has killed dozens of people, as world powers scramble for a diplomatic strategy to end the violence in the country after the defeat of a UN Security Council resolution. Heavy artillery and rockets fire by Syrian government forces has been rocking the city this morning as attacks resumed with almost constant explosions.

The attacks came just hours after mourners were pictured surrounding the bodies of some of the 200 people slaughtered by troops on Friday, February 3, 2012, night.

Government forces had launched rockets at the restive city of Homs making the bloodiest day of the 11- month uprising.

The Free Syrian Army are fighting against the Syrian army of President Bashar al-Assad in the streets of the city of Homs. The fighting’s are very violent, and several armored vehicles of the Syrian army have been destroyed by the rebels.

The rebels are powerless against the firing of artillery and rockets.

President Bashar Assad's soldiers continued their onslaught this morning after the regime vowed to press on with its crackdown on the opposition movement.

Intense shelling left 50 people dead according to opposition group the Syrian National Council, and a makeshift hospital was among buildings reportedly hit.

One activist said government forces were using multiple rocket launchers.
