At
IndoDefence 2012, the Tri-Service defence exhibition of Indonesia, ThalesRaytheonSystems
is showcasing the Ground Master family of radars. The Ground Master radars
are specifically designed to meet the following operational requirements:
high detection performance, high track accuracy, weapon assignment, high
operational availability and simplified maintenance as well as high mobility. |

The
Ground Master radar systems can detect a vast array of modern-day threats,
including UAVs, missiles, mortars and rockets and at critical ranges and
altitudes. |

The
Ground
Master (GM) 400 is a 3-D long-range air defence radar able to
detect threats from both high and low altitudes; from 5 to 470 km. Its
specific design (S Band, 6s rotation, Full Digital, Stacked Beam, Adaptive
Doppler modes) brings a unique capability to track highly manoeuvrable
low flying targets with a small Radar Cross Section while providing an
excellent global air picture. performance in terms of warning delay and
tracking accuracy of highly manoeuvrable targets flying at both low and
high altitude. With the full 3-D coverage, the GM 200 is a dual-use radar that can switch instantaneously between modes; from extended range surveillance (as a gap filler for example) to shorter range engagement (as a battlefield radar for example). Its range is about 250 km. It can adapt its rotating speed in order to detect different kinds of threats and fulfill different kinds of missions. The GM 60 is the smallest radar of the GM family. It is a 3D solid-state multibeam radar, optimised for mobile air defense operation thanks to its advanced search-on-the move capability. GM60 provides complete airspace surveillance with a range up to 80 km. The entire family of Ground Master radars (GM 400, GM 200 and GM 60) are complementary and share a high level of commonality which is a real advantage from an industrial stand point (because a larger number of common parts are produced, reducing the overall cost of the system) but also from an operational stand point: The end user is able to keep a single stock of spare parts for all three systems which simplifies the entire logistic chain. The GM 400 has already been selected by a number of customers including France who has acquired for example one unit located in French Guyana to protect the Kourou space center during rocket launches. More recently, France selected ThalesRaytheonSystems in September 2012 to supply a Ground Master 406 (a variant of the GM 400) radar base intended to provide full coverage in the South of France. |
