Venezuela will receive additional deliveries of weapons from Russia in the next few months.
A new batch of Russian weapons will arrive in Venezuela in the next few months, said Tuesday, May 22, 2012, the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. "Without the help of Russia, we would not have the military power that we have today," said M.Chavez cited by Venezuelan television.

According to the president, current deliveries of military equipment are made under the plan to strengthen the Venezuelan army with modern weapons.

"We are confident for the support of Russia and China," indicated M.Chavez.

At the end of 2011, Venezuela was ranked first importers of Russian weapons by the Centre for the analysis of global arms trade. Venezuela bought main battle tanks T-72B1, armoured infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3M, wheeled armoured vehicle personnel carrier BTR-80A, self-propelled howitzers 2S19 MSTA-S, self-propelled mortar carrier 2S23 Nona-SVK , mortars 2S12A Sani, multiple launch rocket systems 9K51 BM-21 Grad, and other equipment.

In April, Russia has completed the delivery to Venezuela of 92 main battle tanks T-72B1 under a contract concluded in 2009.
