Russia will deliver four divisions of S-300 ground-to-air defense missile systems to Belarus.
Russia will deliver four divisions of ground-air missiles S-300 to Belarus in 2014, announced Tuesday, April 23, 2013, the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

"In 2014, Russia will deliver four divisions of S-300 air defence missile systems to protect the Belarusian airspace, in accordance with your agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin," said M.Choïgou during the meeting.

Russia also plans to consider other matters relating the protection of the Belarusian territory, he said. The armies of the two countries have very close relations and conduct several joint programs, including the creation of a regional missile defense system.

Russia and Belarus are actively preparing the future joint exercises Zapad-2013 (West 2013). "We need to check again what we can do together to answer about the current threats and the best solutions to ensure the safety of our two countries," concluded the Russian minister.

Russian-Belarus strategic military exercises Zapad-2013 are scheduled for September.
