e2v has recently developed this new technology in-house and has released a Low Energy Exploding Foil Initiator (LEEFI) and high speed switching technology. This has enabled the development of a new compact modular Safety and Arming Unit (SAU) and Ignition Safety Device (ISD) which allows the safety and reliability benefits of the current range of Exploding Foil Initiator (EFI) based systems to be flowed down into smaller calibre weapon systems. Due to the very consistent reaction times of the new high speed switching technology, e2v has now been able to develop a precision switchable multipoint initiation system allowing for selectable switching of warhead effects. e2v’s electronic safety and initiation technology is developed entirely in the UK and employs solid-state sensing and high speed switching components to provide fully electronic solutions. e2v is currently supplying electronic SAUs and motor ISDs containing e2v EFIs, into more than fifteen complex weapon systems world-wide. e2v SAUs and ISDs offer a high reliability, robust initiation solution to meet the demands of the modern high precision IM compliant weapon system. Brion Weller, Product Manager at e2v commented, “On-going technology research into LEEFIs, pyrotechnic initiation and next-generation fuzing systems is securing e2v’s capability to support the delivery of precision effects for our customers into the future.” |
