France
will send around 1,000 more soldiers to the Central African Republic (C.A.R.)
, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Tuesday, November 26,
2013, in a radio interview. About 400 French troops are already in the
Central African Republic, the French Defense Ministry said, where they
are deployed to protect French nationals and help secure the airport in
the capital, Bangui. France is a former colonial power in the Central
African Republic. |

The officials said French soldiers wouldn't be on the
front line in the Central African Republic but would rather back up
a multinational African force, which has already deployed some soldiers,
and is expected to reach 3,600 soldiers by the end of the year. |
