At MSPO 2013, the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Poland, the American Company Lockheed Martin presents the next generation of MLRS Multiple Launch Rocket System with its HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System).

HIMARS was developed by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. The HIMARS enters in service with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps in 2005. In late 2009, Singapore took delivery of the first HIMARS firing unit and achieved Full Operational Capability. The 23rd Battalion, Singapore artillery commissioned its HIMARS battery on 5 September 2011.

In September 2006, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced the United Arab Emirates official request High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems external link (HIMARS) as well as associated equipment and services.

HIMARS rolls off a C-130 combat loaded and delivers GMLRS and ATACMS munitions with pinpoint accuracy.

The combat-proven HIMARS provides increased responsiveness, increased crew protection and increased effectiveness against time-critical targets and supports conventional and Special Forces operations around the globe.

The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System is a wheeled launcher that delivers a lethal mix of precision munitions on the Army’s FMTV 5-ton truck. HIMARS carries a single six-pack of MLRS rockets or one ATACMS missile. HIMARS is designed to launch the entire MLRS family of munitions, including the transformational GMLRS and all ATACMS variants.

HIMARS is capable of firing the long-range ATACMS (army tactical missile system) guided missile. The ATACMS family includes the Block 1, Block 1A and Block 1A Unitary missiles. The block 1 missile delivers 950 anti-personnel anti-material (AP/AM) baseball-sized M74 submunitions to ranges exceeding 165km. ATACMS Block I missile was successfully deployed in Operation Desert Storm.

The HIMARS was deployed by U.S. Army and Marine Corps during the military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
