HSW Scattered Mine Laying Platform BAOBAB at MSPO 2013 |

The HSW BAOBAB consists of a 6x6 truck chassis JELCZ P662.35G34 on the rear of which is the mine launching assembly with 4 or 6 mine launcher units, each mounted on a turntable. Each launcher unit can be loaded with 20 launch tubes with 5 mines in each launch tube. The BAOBAB enables deploy of barrier minefields with different size, density of laying and time of self-destruction. Required parameters of the resultant barrier are obtained by suitable programming of the control unit in automatic or manual mode and positioning of launchers. In automatic mode, the computer calculates launchers' setting and keeps launching frequency during vehicle's travel. Additionally, mine field parameters and minefield corners’ coordinates are recorded and displayed on screen on computer's digital map. Al these data can be sent via radio station to higher command level. The BAOBAB can launch the mine from center line of the vehicle to a distance of 0 to 90 m with a speed from 5 to 25 km/h with the possibility of launching on sides and the rear of the vehicle. The BAOBAB can use two types of mines, the MN123.1 with immediate action and the MN123.2 with delayed action. MN123 scatterable mines are designated for creating minefields by means of mine scattering system. Minefields employing MN123 can be placed on every location available to land vehicles. Operation of the mines is preceded by release of the safety units in two-stages. The vehicle which is passing above the mine is the cause of disturbance of magnetic field. This in turn activates the mine and causes the explosion. Cumulative action of the mine is possible in both directions – regardless of mine’s two possible orientations. |
