Around 850 soldiers from a mechanized infantry battalion with VAB APC are deployed in Lebanon for the UNIFIL mission.

With its foreign political policy of free and active, Indonesia has frequently taken part in global peace missions under the United Nations coordinated program.

The peace mission includes that in Gaza, Congo, Bosnia, Lebanon and other places.

The Indonesia army has a total of 1,455 soldiers in Lebanon for the UNIFIL peace mission, including 850 soldiers fom a mechanized infantry battalion, 75 men in military police unit, 200 men in force protection company, 11 men UNIFIL staff, 111 men aboard KRI Diponegoro for the Maritime task force.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, or UNIFIL, was created by the United Nations, with the adoption of Security Council Resolution 425 and 426 on 19 March 1978, to confirm Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon which Israel had invaded five days prior, restore international peace and security, and help the Government of Lebanon restore its effective authority in the area.

The first UNIFIL troops were deployed in the area on 23 March 1978; these troops were reassigned from other UN peacekeeping operations in the area (namely the United Nations Emergency Force and the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force Zone).
