Lex Products Corp. announced that the U.S. Marine Corps has awarded the company a contract for the design and development of Advanced Mobile Electric Power Distribution System (AMEPDIS). AMEPDIS is the enhanced version of the MEPDIS-R portable electric power distribution system, which Lex Products has supplied to the all Marine Corps forward operating bases since 2004.
MEPDIS-R is a commercial-based modular component system consisting of portable power distribution boxes and interconnecting power cables.

AMEPDIS will incorporate technology designed to add features such as load prioritization, load shedding and automatic phase balancing. Improvements to the MEPDIS-R line will include fault monitoring and isolation thereby adding safety and reliability to the system. This new system can achieve active load management as a result of its load prioritization and shedding capability.

The MEPDIS-R system can be configured in an almost infinite number of ways to address the unique power requirements of the units with which they are deployed. It includes a series of cable adapters permitting the use of legacy assets with next generation components.

Joe Birchak, Senior Vice President of Business Development, said, “Lex Products is proud to be the sole source for power distribution systems for the United State Marine Corps.” He added, “Through this contract award we will provide an improved system that will meet the challenges of a changing mobile power landscape that will require fuel savings and power grid efficiencies on the battlefield.”

By introducing AMEPDIS as a supplement rather than a replacement of the legacy system, the Marine Corps will now have the added flexibility of incorporating a mix of MEPDIS-R and AMEPDIS units in grid configurations that allow complete interconnection. AMEPDIS can be considered a “smart” MEPDIS-R.
