At
IDEF 2013, the International Defense Exhibition in Turkey held from May
7th through 10th, Lockheed Martin showcased its PAC-3 air defense system
to local and visiting delegations. Turkey is currently holding a tender
for the procurement of a system that can meet the challenges of both air
and missile defense. Systems from Russia, China and France are also taking
part in the tender in addition to Lockheed Martin’s PAC-3. |

The ‘hit-to-kill’ PAC-3 (Patriot Advanced
Capability-3 ) Missile is the world’s most advanced, capable and
powerful terminal air defense missile. It defeats the entire threat:
tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs), cruise missiles and aircraft. The
PAC-3 Missile is a quantum leap ahead of any other air defense missile
when it comes to the ability to protect the Warfighter in their defining
moments. The Patriot system combines an advanced anti-aircraft missile and one of the most powerful radar in the world (in terms of target tracking). The Patriot is the only anti-aircraft system to have successfully engaged a tactical ballistic missile in combat. It is also the only one to have provided a tactical missile protection in operation. The PAC-3 is capable of destroying ballistic missiles in real conditions at a maximum range of 70 km. Lockheed Martin signed an agreement in June 2012 with Turkish missile manufacturer Roketsan. It enables the company to become a supplier of PAC-3 Missile single canisters. With technical assistance from Lockheed Martin, Roketsan provides production line development, special tooling design and fabrication, production planning, first article inspection, qualification hardware and delivery of new one-pack missile canisters. |
