Osprea showcases its Mamba Mk5 vehicle with two types of motor at DSEI 2013.

At DSEI 2013, Osprea shows new features of its Mamba light armoured vehicle. This further development of the Mamba Mk5 range provides even higher degrees of ballistic and mine protection, excellent mobility and more manoeuvrability than ever before. The Mamba was one of the most successful wheeled vehicles designed to protect multi-role forces operating in mine-threatened environments. Thousands of Mamba vehicles have been built in South Africa; and most are still in service in military, combat and peace-keeping operations, across Africa and the world.

The Iveco drive line in the Mamba Mk5 gives all the extra power, strength, economy, emissions standards and in-service life expected from a modern drive chain, while continuing the Deutz pedigree which has served militaries around Europe and the World for so long. This solid integrated tried and tested drive chain gives non-controlled COTS parts supply for 20 years.

The increase in power to 179 kW (240 Hp) gives this vehicle a power to weight ratio of 20.69 kW per ton and a carrying capacity of over 5,750 kg for additional IED or Slat armour, making it a class leading vehicle well into the future. Dual layer armour and a blast protection level to withstand 12 kg of TNT, coupled with exceptional torque and obstacle climbing capability (600 m vertical step up and 70%+ hill climbing) and a turning circle of 13.5 m, makes the Mamba Mk5 Iveco the ideal vehicle for close protection and combat operations in confined environments.
