According to a decision taken by the French Minister of Defence Jean- Yves Le Drian, the French army procurement agency (DGA) has notified, December 3, 2013, to MBDA France, a contract for development and manufacturing of the MMP missile (Medium Range Missile).
The firing unit of MMP is fitted with a latest generation Band 2 infrared (IR) and also includes a day camera and laser range finder.

MMP (Missile Moyenne Portée- Medium Range Missile) is a new generation surface attack missile system designed for the French Army. The MMP development programme was initiated by MBDA Systems in 2009, to replace France's Milan wire-guided anti-tank missile. It will enter in service with the ground forces and the Special Forces of the French Army.

The plan includes the delivery of 400 firing units and 2,850 missiles. A total of 175 firing units and 450 missiles will be delivered between 2014 to 2019.

The MMP is a lightweight man-portable missile that can be installed on tracked and wheeled vehicles. It offers enhanced preciseness and considerable automation in striking targets. It is capable of destroying both stationary and moving targets.

The missile is designed to have a maximum range of 4,000m. It has an overall length of 13m, diameter of 0.14m, and weight of 15kg (inclusive of tube).

The firing unit weighs approximately 11kg (including tripod and battery). It works as an autonomous unit when installed with battery, but can be connected to an external power source if required.
