Russian army to deploy three new regiments of S-400 surface-to-air defense missile system 2911132.

“Two S-400 regiments were presented to the Russian military this year. Another three regiments should be put in service in 2014,” Putin said at a meeting on the development of Russia’s aerospace defenses.

Currently, Russia has five S-400 regiments, two of which deployed around Moscow and the rest three in the far eastern Primorye Territory, Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad and the Southern Military District, RIA Novosti news agency said.

The sixth regiment will join the two near Moscow by the end of 2013, and Russia plans to deploy 28 S-400 regiments by 2020, according to the defense ministry.

Russia plans to have 28 S-400 regiments by 2020, each comprising two or three battalions (four systems each), mainly in maritime and border areas.

The S-400 Triumph (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) is a Russian-made long range surface-to-air defense missile systems produced by the Defense Company Almaz-Antey.

The S-400 can engage all types of aerial targets including aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), and ballistic and cruise missiles within the range of 400km, at an altitude of up to 30km.
