Russian armed forces will include Special Operations units to answer 20th century threats.
The Russian Ministry of Defense began the implementation of special operations forces and has already created a structure responsible to control the command, announced Wednesday, March 8, 2013, the Chief of General Staff of the Russian Army, General Valery Gerasimov.

"After analyzing the experience of the leading countries in the creation, training and use of special operations forces, the Russian Department of Defense began the implementation of similar military units," said General before the military attachés of foreign States based in Moscow.

According to General Gerasimov, wars and armed conflicts of the twenty-first century show that the special operations forces play a more and more important role.

The Chief of Staff also reported that the Russian Defense Ministry has already prepared a document setting out the main lines for the development of these forces including their missions and training methods.
