A
team of United States Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen successfully
test-fired an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile
(ICBM) Dec. 17 at 4:36 a.m. PST from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
The LGM-30 Minuteman is a United States land-based intercontinental ballistic
missile (ICBM), in service with the United States Air Force Global Strike
Command. As of 2010, the LGM-30G Minuteman III version is the only land-based
ICBM in service in the United States. |

The launch team,
under the direction of the 576th Flight Test Squadron, Vandenberg AFB,
included Airmen from the 341st Missile Wing, Malmstrom AFB, Mont., and
the 625th Strategic Operations Squadron, Offutt AFB, Neb. |
