“All decisions that were taken earlier are reflected in the contract. Now all depends on Belarus. As soon as Belarus signs the contract, the missile systems will be delivered to them,” said Konstantin Biryulin , deputy director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation.

“At a meeting with Belarusian Defense Minister Yury Zhadobin, we discussed pressing issues of military cooperation between Russia and Belarus,” Shoigu said.

“We are taking actions to develop and increase the combat potential of the unified regional air defense system. To this end, we are building up the Belarusian air defense capability,” the Russian defense minister said.

“We are planning to hand over four S-300 units to Belarus,” he added.

The S-300 system was first deployed by the Soviet Union in 1979, it was especially designed to provide air defence of large industrial and administrative facilities, military bases, and control of airspace against enemy strike aircraft.

The latest variant, the S-300PMU2 has a maximum range of 195 km compared of the basic variant of the S-300 which has only a maximum range of 90 km. The S-300PMU2 uses also the new missile 48N6E2.
