At KADEX 2014, the International Exhibition of weapons systems and Military
equipment in Astana (Kazakhstan), Russian Defense Company Uralvagonzavod
unveils its new fire support armoured fighting vehicle BMPT-72 nicknamed
Terminator 2. As the first production of BMP-T, the BMPT-72 is based on
the chassis of the Russian-made main battle tank T-72. |

The new BMPT-72 fire support combat vehicle features high level of protection, fire power and battle management. The vehicle is redesign based of the chassis of T-72 main battle tank to provide the same protection of a modern tank with the mobility of light infantry fighting vehicle. The BMPT-72 includes steel armoured hull and turret. The protection is further enhanced with the addition of multipurpose and modular explosive reactive armour (ERA) on the forward and sides of the vehicle. The reat part of the turret and the hull are protected with additional with wire cage armour to increase protection against RPG (Rocket-Propelled Grenade), one of the main threat to the modern battlefield. The vehicle offers new protection and fire power especially in urban operations. The BMPT-72 is able to fight a full range of modern targets as main battle tank, armoured infantry fighting vehicles and other combat vehicles, dismounted infantry, and guided missile combat teams. The BMPT-72 is also fitted with new screening system to protect the vehicle against anti-tank systems with laser targets designators and against artillery systems with laser range finder. |

The BMPT-72 is armed with two automatic cannons 2A42 30mm caliber which has a maximum range of 2,500 m. Two launchers for anti-tank guided missiles 9M1201 or guided missiles 9M1201F are mounted to each side of the turret. Anti-tank missiles have a maximum firing range of 5,000m. The BMPT-72 has a crew of three soldiers, with no personnel in the turret. |
