an article published on the Russian news agency ITAR-TASS website, China
would become the first foreign country to buy long- and medium-range anti-aircraft
defense missile systems S-400

Beijing
has been interested in acquiring the guided missile system since 2011.
Two years ago, Russia talked with several countries interested in buying
the system but was forced to suspend negotiations in order to ensure its
supply to the Russian military Chief of Russian presidential staff Sergei Ivanov said "It was possible that China would become the first foreign country to buy long- and medium-range anti-aircraft defense missile systems S-400 Triumf, but this may take several years." “Chances that China will be the first foreign purchaser are big,” Ivanov told reporters, recalling that Russian army had already received first air defense missile systems S-400. As for military-technical co-operation between the two countries, Ivanov recalled effective and promising agreements that were concluded. “Promising contracts exist, for instance, for supplies of S-400 air defense missile systems. But their fulfillment will take several years to say the least, it is just impossible to produce this type of military hardware in six months,” the presidential staff chief added. . Belarus has also shown interest to purchase the S-400. The S-400 Triumf (NATO code name SA-21 Growler) is Russian-made air defense missile system which enter in service with the Russiabn army in 2007. The S-400 Triumph SA-21 is a long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by Almaz-Antey. The S-400 Triumph is intended to engage, ECM, radar-picket, director area, reconnaissance, strategic and tactical aircraft, tactical and theatre ballistic missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles and other current and future air attack assets at a maximum range of 400 km, and a altitude of up to 30 km. The Russian Army plans call for the fielding of 18 battalions by 2020 as the backbone of its surface-to-air missile capabilities. |
