Chinese defense industry unveils new CX-1 supersonic cruise missile to strike land and naval targets
At AirShow China 2014 in Zhuhai, China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation unveils the new CX-1 supersonic cruise missile which can be used against naval and land targets. A cruise missile is a guided missile, the major portion of whose flight path to its target is conducted at approximately constant velocity. The supersonic missile travel faster than the speed of sound, usually using ramjet engines.

The CX-1 supersonic cruise missile is available in two variants, the CX-1B which can be launched from an 8x8 truck chassis and the CX-1A is a sea version, designed to be launched from a combat ship.

According the first information of the designer, the CX-1 is especially designed to destroy naval targets, but it can be also used against land targets.

For the naval version, the CX1 is launched from oblique container mounted onboard ship. For the land version, two CX1 missiles in container can be mounted on 8x8 heavy truck chassis. The same truck chassis is used as launch station for the M20 missile and for the rockets A100, A200 and A300.

The CX-1 is designed to attack surface and naval targets at low altitudes from 5 to 20 m and high altitude from 15 to 18 km. The ship and ground-launched versions have a range from 40 to 280 km. The missile also has a high level of accuracy, which has been reported as a CEP (circular error probable) less than 20m. The missile can flight at a maximum speed of Mach 2.4.

According to our first analysis, the design of the new Chinese-made CX-1 supersonic cruise missile seems to be very similar to Brahmos cruise missile developed and manufactured by India and Russia. Ship and ground-launched versions of the Brahmos have been produced, and air and submarine-launched versions are under development.

The BrahMos is designed to attack surface targets at altitudes as low as 10 m. The ship and ground-launched versions have a range of 300 km, while the air-launched version has a range of 500 km.
