Ukraine
to supply a total of 50 T-64BV1 main battle tanks to Democratic Republic
of Congo. |
The
Subsidiary of the State Company “Ukrspecexport” the State
Company “Ukroboronservice” concluded the foreign economic
contract for major overhaul and supply of 50 main battle tanks T64BV-1.
According to Russian internet sources and the Lenta newspaper website,
the country buyer could be the Democratic Republic of Congo that have
signed a contract late 2013 for a unit price of $200,000. |

The works will be performed
in Ukraine by the State Enterprise Kharkiv plant of armored tanks.
“The signing of the contract is an important step of the Concern
towards introduction of this type of tank on world arm markets. T-64
is considered to be the strategic breakthrough and it has never been
exported before, up to the present moment.
In 2010, Ukraine delivered 30 T-55
main battle tanks, 100 T-72M1
main battle tanks to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to the Ukrainian manufacturer, the T-64BV1 is superior to
T-72M1 by the list of main technical specifications
such as firepower, tank’s protection.
Main armament of T-64BV1 comprises a 125 mm KBA-3 smoothbore gun fitted
with a thermal sleeve and fume extractor. A 7.62 mm PKT machine gun
is mounted coaxially with the main armament and the commander is provided
with a 12.7 mm NSVT machine gun. The T-64BV1 featured an enhanced anti-radiation
protection and add-on explosive reactive armour.
Sergiy Gromov, the Director General of the State Concern “Ukroboronprom”,
declared that Ukroboronprom aims to extent export of T-64 tanks. “The
list of foreign partners, which operate the equipment manufactured in
the Soviet Union, show the interest in purchasing of these tanks. We
are sure in the success of this product”, - the Director General
said.
