Defence
Services Asia 2014 (DSA 2014) which marks the 14th show in the mega showcase
of leading edge defence and security technology, is on track for another
spectacular showing from April 14-17 as the premier platform for players
in the defence and security industry around the world to promote their
products, exchange ideas and technologies, forge partnerships and embark
on strategic and synergistic collaborations. Up to date, the show is 95
percent sold out. |

Recognised as a major annual exhibition by the Malaysian Government, an event was held at the Ministry of Defence today where YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, the Minister of Defence Malaysia accepted signed sponsorship contracts from five key exhibitors, namely Boustead, BAE Systems, JAKEL and Sapura Group, SMEO. SMEO will be the second largest Malaysian exhibitor at DSA 2014 and has been a key participant in the DSA series for many years which has spurred economic spin-offs for the country in related sectors including accommodation, transportation, logistics, entertainment, F&B, among others. DSA 2014 is expected to continue with this trend, more so with the kick-start of Visit Malaysia Year 2014. Since the inaugural show in 1988, the DSA series has gained a reputation as one of the world’s top five defence and security exhibitions and Asia’s largest. DSA 2014 is expected to attract 1,000 of the world’s leading players from over 50 countries, including 27 international group pavilions. Some of the participating countries are China, France, Germany, Italy, USA, UK, and a newcomer, Azerbaijan. For the very first time, not just at DSA but in the world, an ASEAN Hall will be introduced at DSA 2014. A new and unprecedented element for this year’s exhibition, the main objective of ASEAN Hall is to promote ASEAN solidarity in defence cooperation. In this regard, each member country is invited to showcase the success stories, progress and development of their own defence industry. An estimated 25,000 visitors from more than 50 countries are also expected at the four-day event. At DSA 2012, there was a record breaking 324 VVIP delegations from 41 nations and almost 27,000 trade visitors from 58 countries, an increase of 19 per cent from DSA 2010. DSA 2012 successfully generated RM4.76 billion in investment opportunities, contracts and memoranda of understanding (MoUs), and the coming DSA 2014 is anticipated to achieve even bigger and better numbers. Malaysian defence and security companies who have confirmed their participation at DSA 2014 include Boustead Naval Shipyard, DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies (Deftech), MDSTP, Sapura, SME Ordnance, System Consultancy Services (SCS), Weststar and Zetro Aerospace. Among the international exhibitors are ADS UK, Aimpoint, Airbus Group, Armscor, Avibras, BAE Systems, Boeing, Brahmos, CETC, CPMIEC, CSTS/CSSC, Denel, DSME, EID, Expal, Finmeccanica, GIDS, Glock, Kongsberg, Korea Defense Industry Association (KDIA), L-3 TRL Technology, MBDA, Nammo, Nexter, Raytheon, Pyser-SCI, Renault, RheinMetall AG, Rosoboronexport, Ruag, Russian Technologies, SAAB, SASTIND, SSM (Turkish Industry Association), Team Defence Australia, Thales, and UKTI-DSO. |
