General Dynamics contract to develop upgrades for U.S. Marine LAV-25 Armored Vehicle Program.

LAV-25 U.S. Marine Corps Light Armoured Vehicle
     
The contract was signed through the Canadian Commercial Corporation, a Crown Agency of the Canadian Government.

Under this contract, General Dynamics will develop a fully integrated replacement power pack, suspension, driveline, steering system and upgraded electrical components. The work scope includes the development and delivery of engineering and logistics data, as well as test support and delivery of prototypes. Work under this contract will continue until May 2017.

The LAV-25 is an 8x8 amphibious reconnaissance armoured vehicle designed and manufactured by the American Company General Dynamics Land Systems. The vehicle is mainly used by the United States Marine Corps.

The LAV-25 is based on the Swiss 8x8 armoured vehicle Piranha I manufactured by the Swiss Company Mowag, now a subdivision of General Dynamics Land Systems.

The LAV-25 is armed with an automatic M242 25 mm chain gun. A 7.62mm machine gun is mounted to the right of the main armament, another 7.62 mm machine gun is mounted on the top of the turret.
