Germany approves major weapons deal for Arab countries 
Germany has approved deliveries of armored vehicles, grenade launchers and machine guns to several Arab countries, according to a report in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper. The report yesterday, October 2nd, stated that weapons are to be delivered to countries including the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Jordan, Oman and Kuwait.

The report yesterday, October 2nd, stated that weapons are to be delivered to countries including the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Jordan, Oman and Kuwait.

The major arms that are in the export list include 13 Dingo armored personnel carriers and 32 Fennek light armored reconnaissance vehicles for the Qatar. The United Arab Emirates will receive 4 Wisent (Bison) 8x8 armored transport vehicles, more than 3,000 assault rifles, 20,000 mortar ammunition and numerous artillery shells.

Saudi Arabia gets grenade launcher systems, remote controlled weapon stations and reconnaissance and observation systems. Jordan will get 1,027 automatic machine guns and assault rifles. Kuwait and Oman will receive grenades, machine guns and automatic rifles for testing. The total ammount of the deal is still unknown.

The value of german weapons exports to countries in the Gulf region rose to 1.42 billion euros ($1.88 billion) last year according to the newspaper.
