IAI's Heron unmanned aerial system selected by South Korean armed forces
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) of the Republic of Korea has announced yesterday, December 17, its selection of Israel Aerospace Industries' (IAI) Heron Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) for the corps-level UAV upgrade project.

DAPA's official notification said: "We comprehensively evaluated price, capability, operational suitability, T&C and selected the equipment that has a higher score."

IAI said: "We appreciate DAPA and the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) for selecting IAI, via a thorough evaluation process which set a high level of requirements, allowing the Heron to demonstrate its outstanding performance, innovative features, mission versatility and proven, advanced operational capabilities".

The HERON is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAS for strategic and tactical missions. The HERON main features and capabilities are a satellite communication for extended range (SATCOM), two proven simultaneous Automatic Takeoff and Landing (ATOL) systems for maximal safety, simultaneously 4 sensors use capability, and a retractable landing gear. Heron has an endurance of 20-45h, and a operational range of 350km.
