Asymmetric threats and patrols in insecure areas demand not only the highest level of protection but also great agility and maneuverability. From the long-standing collaboration with the Bundeswehr, KMW has developed a command vehicle together with Rheinmetall, which resembles a modern SUV in terms of handling and versatility whilst readily fulfilling the requirements of modern army operations. The AMPV* sets international standards in terms of safety and security and thus belongs to an innovative, powerful and future-oriented generation of armored vehicles.

Jointly developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall Defence, the innovative new Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) is an ultramodern command and multi-purpose vehicle that combines high mobility with the best possible protection.

Long years of experience have flowed into the AMPV concept, which is strongly oriented to the German Bundeswehr's modern mission spectrum. The AMPV vehicle family features a robust, high-performance chassis with independent wheel suspension, long spring excursion and high ground clearance. With a turning radius of less than 15m and a 200kW engine output, the AMPV performs superbly in all conditions.
A self-supporting safety cell made of steel and composite armour sets a whole new standard for force protection in vehicles of this class. As a result, the AMPV exceeds the current protection criteria at the same time as achieving a significant savings in weight.
