LightSpeed: Secure communications
Noise discipline has been made simpler by GTD. Convoys can communicate between them effectively, without being heard by the enemy. Warships can leave a port and communicate without emitting in the electromagnetic spectrum. Forward air or artillery controllers can communicate with the rear without being easily located.

GTD from Spain is showcasing LightSpeed, the most secure line-of-sight communication technology on the market, being part of the equipment integrated on a URO VAMTAC in an ISR version. It has been developed in cooperation with Navantia, who was the engineering and integrator contractor.

LightSpeed provides point-to-point communications, with an eye-safe IR LED (not laser), which can transmit both voice and data. Such technologies allow the free flow of bi-directional communications even in a heavily jammed environment, either on the move or in a static position. Voice can be transmitted at speeds of 2 Mbps at a distance of 1 km and data at 2.5 km with a 10 Mbps speed.

The only constraining factors in the use of this kind of systems are, the weather or dust or humidity in the area of interest, and the capability of the enemy to detect the laser source with an electro-optic device. However, this is highly improbable as it depends on the position of the enemy in the battlefield, something that is impossible sometimes.

LightSpeed is in use with the Spanish Army on the Pizarro (ASCOD) artillery forward observation versions.

One more version of the LightSpeed being produced is on binoculars. The users can communicate between each other, as the products features a headset connection.

The URO VAMTAC vehicle being presented at the exhibition features a series of sensors that are all integrated on the Spanish Army battle management system, along with the remote overhead weapon station.
