Today infantry troops are heavily loaded and may have to travel long distances
in difficult terrain conditions. To reduce fatigue of soldiers, and increase
its responsiveness in combat, Nexter Robotics of France has unveiled at
Eurosatory 2014 the MULE, a 4x4 unmanned ground vehicle able to carry
heavy payload for the troops on the battlefield. |

Nexter
Robotics a subsidiary of Nexter Systems has teamed with the French Company
SERA to develop a new concept of wheeled unmanned robot system which can
be used as cargo vehicle. Due to its high payload capacity, this robot can support and re-supply one or several sections or platoons (up to 10 soldiers). It can transport various usual payloads (food, ammunitions, water, fuel, batteries,...) both in its low floor cases and its large top tray; It is also equipped to recharge standard batteries used on the field. The combination of high speed with both front and rear steering axles gives excellent mobility capabilities in open and urban environment. The two on-board power trains improve overall performances, contribute to redundancy and, when in hybrid configuration, provide quiet moving and long range. The MULE can be remotely controlled or operated at long distances using semi-autonomous modes such as: Way-points navigation (using standard maps), path record and replay or personnel-follower. On-board efficient obstacle detection guarantees safe autonomous mobility. The platform has also been designed to easily address many other robotic applications in mounted and dismounted combat. The MULE can run at a maximum road speed of 45 km/h and 30 km/h in off-road conditions with a maximum cruising range of 150 km in thermal mode and 30 km in electrical mode. The MULE has a maximum payload of 400 kg. |
